Employee Spotlight: Gary Bowden

From the rugby pitch to the data center, Gary Bowden brings a unique blend of grit, curiosity, and technical mastery to The Millennium Group. His professional journey is anything but conventional—starting as a professional rugby player before transitioning into roles in software support, technical training, and engineering. Today, he’s the go-to expert for network design, migration strategies, and maintaining the backbone of the company’s datacenter infrastructure.

When asked what he enjoys most about his role, Gary highlights the variety and challenge of designing within tight parameters. “I do a lot,” he says with a smile, “but I love the complexity and the opportunity to solve problems creatively.”

As a child, Gary was immersed in sports and never imagined a career beyond the field. Fortunately, the timing was perfect—rugby in the UK turned professional just as he was coming of age, allowing him to pursue his passion at the highest level. One of his most defining life moments came at 19, when he left the UK with just a bag of clothes and $50 to play professional rugby in New Zealand. “It was the greatest adventure of my life,” he recalls.

Outside of work, Gary’s passions remain hands-on and dynamic. He still enjoys playing rugby, tinkering with all things tech, and even dabbling in basic woodworking. His admiration for Steve Wozniak reflects his own values—engineering driven by curiosity and challenge rather than recognition.
